FAQ's

What is the CAT Scale Guarantee?

CAT Scale offers an unconditional Guarantee “If you get an overweight fine from the state after our scale showed you are legal, we will immediately check our scale. If our scale is wrong, we will reimburse you for the fine. If our scale is correct, a representative of CAT Scale Company will appear in court with the driver as a witness”. It’s that simple, and just another reason why we are your #1 choice.

Are all CAT Scales certified?

Yes, all CAT Scales are certified in the state they are located in.

Can I use a CAT Scale ticket for billing my customer?

Yes, all CAT Scales meet government requirements for billing.

If I weigh in one state and receive an overweight citation in another state, am I still covered by the CAT Scale Guarantee?

Yes, you only have to have a legal ticket prior to receiving the overweight citation, which state you purchased your CAT Scale ticket in doesn’t matter.

If I received an overweight citation, does it count against my CDL?

To the best of our knowledge, overweight citations are not point violations, while some states may show them on your record they should not effect your CDL. (For specific information regarding your state please contact the Department of Motor Vehicles in your state).

Should I post bond for my overweight citation?

In most cases yes, it doesn’t prevent you from contesting the citation it only allows the state to make sure they get their money.

I lost my CAT Scale ticket and need a copy, how do I get one?

CAT Scale keeps an electronic record of all sold CAT Scale tickets for a period of seven years. If you need a copy please do the following:

  • Please send the request in writing.
  • Give us the CAT Scale location and date that you weighed.
  • Give us the truck and trailer number that appears on the ticket, and any other information that would help us to locate the the electronic record.

We will only give this information out to the purchaser of the ticket, or the trucking company that appears on the ticket. Please allow a few days to find your ticket and return a copy to you.

What is CAT Scale’s reweigh policy?

A reweigh for $4.50 may be charged, after the first weigh, if all of the following are true:

  1. Same vehicle (tractor and trailer),
  2. Full price ticket is presented by the customer and its number is recorded on the reweigh ticket,
  3. Reweigh must be from the same scale as the full priced ticket,
  4. Reweigh must be within 24 hours of the full priced ticket.

I am really having a problem getting legal. Is there a limit on how many reweighs I can get for $4.50?

We know there are times when it is difficult to get a load legal, after paying for a full price weigh ($14.00) and two reweighs (for a charge of $23.00), the on duty manager may elect to void all further reweighs until you are legal. The reweigh that shows you legal will be the last one you will have to pay for. The total charge in this case would be $27.50.

Can I weigh on a CAT Scale to comply with the SOLAS Weight Verification Requirement?

Yes, CAT Scales are certified and can be used to obtain weight to comply with the SOLAS requirement.

In order to obtain the weight of the container, you will first need to determine the tare weight of your tractor trailer (prior to being loaded with the container).  Weigh again once you are loaded. The difference in the gross weight is the weight of the container.
